It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. Psalms 118:8.
In today’s world with all its evil, political upheaval and wickedness, it can be so easy for us to be caught up in the events of the day. When we become so enamored (affected) by what is happening in our world, our faith in Christ and The Cross becomes weak. If we don’t guard our hearts and minds, it is so easy for us to become distracted. If we become distracted we to start to focus on things rather than keep our faith in Christ and The Cross. It will drain us spiritually. We can ill afford to place our confidence in things or in humanistic resources. Neither can we afford to place our trust and confidence in politics, politicians, government issues and political parties, because it will only lead to fear and disappointment……
“Thus saith The Lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.” Jeremiah 17:5-6……Jeremiah tells us the consequences of trusting in man. It will bring a curse and dryness to the soul. To place ones trust and confidence in human and political wisdom and knowledge leads to great disappointment, spiritual poverty and it is vanity. The individual who places their trust in man or political parties and politicians are foolish.
Man and political parties are subject to failure (Romans 4:21) and prone to lying (Numbers 23:19) to accomplish their purpose. But those who place their faith and trust fully in Christ and The Cross will have true confidence that God will never fail (Joshua 21:45) and He cannot lie. (Numbers 23:19). They whose faith is in The Cross will not be afraid of the days which lay before and neither will they be anxious due to life’s circumstances.
Our faith in The Cross makes our spiritual roots to grow deep. It’s not that life no longer has any difficulties, but the trying and perilous times are nothing to fear. We can remain confident in God in the midst of them. He keeps us vibrant and useful to his will even when we feel languished or when times and adversity are against us. Trust in the Lord (Proverbs 3:5) is a faith that helps us to boldly stand strong in The Lord. (Ephesians 6:10). This confidence in Christ should infuse our whole being to greater trust and faith in The Cross.
